SkinVision is a pioneering mobile application that empowers users worldwide to perform self-checks for skin health issues, including skin cancer, just by using their smartphones. As the first CE-certified medical app in this field, SkinVision leverages sophisticated AI technology developed in collaboration with leading dermatologists to provide accurate, immediate risk assessments, enhancing early detection and enabling proactive skin care management. This innovative solution has significantly impacted the healthcare industry, marked by its substantial user base and the detection of numerous skin cancer cases.
The healthcare industry has surpassed $10 trillion in 2022 and skin cancer affects over 1,5 million new patients every year. Together with the SkinVision team, we wanted to build a platform that allowed users to keep their skin healthy with regular self-checks using only their mobile phones. SkinVision (Netherlands) had an established codebase and an internal team in Amsterdam when we started working with them. They were in charge of business, marketing, customer care, and product. Our team took over the mobile app development process for iOS and Android platforms.

When we designed and created SkinVision we encountered a few challenges:
Atta Systems team joined SkinVision, a funded medtech startup, helping the product team with mobile app development (on Android and iOS), mobile image acquisition, and occasionally frontend and product marketing services. We provided the software development for the iOS and Android apps and different web apps, image processing and computer vision skills for on-device image acquisition, software architecture expertise for the backend infrastructure, and product marketing: setup and monitoring product analytics (mobile, web, backend).
SkinVision supports users to check their skin for signs of skin cancer with instant results on their phones with the help of our clinically proven technology, combined with the knowledge of dermatologists specializing in skin cancer.
We created the app to use machine learning giving users the risk indication in just a few seconds. A research team was also involved in the development of the risk assessment algorithms. We had to set device real-time image acquisition with specific conditions, build a complex code-base for iOS and Android, and ultimately hand over work to the new internal development team, at the end of 2018.
The collaboration was a success, we started with app ratings below 3* on the App Store and Google Play store and managed to successfully raise the user ratings to over 4.5* on average on both stores.

For each flow in Medicai, we develop user flow diagrams just like this one to help us understand what the optimal user journey looks like.
The Medicai Design System provides a unified component base for both designers and developers to ensure consistency throughout all products.
Medicai's DICOM viewer supports all imaging types, provides efficient storage, and allows seamless access to medical images from any device, including mobile ones through the Medicai Mobile app, enhancing real-time collaboration and patient care.
Below you can play with Medicai’s DICOM Viewer directly embeded in our website. Inside the viewer, you can see a MRI imaging study.
