With so many alternative urban mobility options available now, UrbanAir is making it easy to find an electric scooter, bike, or even a car from several services based on your location, removing the need to switch between urban mobility apps

UrbanAir started as an idea to gather all urban mobility apps like Lime, Blinkee or GetPony into a single place, at a glance. “Urban” because it focuses on city transport, “Air” because it’s fast, seamless and easy to use.

While the concept itself is very simple, it quickly became very clear that such an app would greatly cut the time needed for people to find a quick ride around town plus it would also be a platform on which new services could live and grow more popular.

The Goals

  • From the get-go, the focus has been on speed – both as a service and also from a UX perspective
  • Integrate as many services as possible right on launch
  • Display all information that’s sent out from a service’s API (a vehicle’s battery, range, licence plate, etc.) in the app
  • Make it very easy for people to filter the map and find the closest and fastest service
  • Create a community of riders, along with official merch

The Challenges

  • Speed of development: UrbanAir is a startup, and one of the strengths of a startup is speed. We made sure the development speed met the expectations
  • Easy to use interface: the app is a consumer app, so we had to make sure the app is easy to use and fast

Urban mobility gets an upgrade

Most of us have been there – you get to a new town and you’ve got no idea what the available urban mobility options are. UrbanAir aims to solve that issue, leaving you just a tap away from riding.

Key Features

Instant Access

Using our optimized infrastructure, we quickly load up the vehicles in your area so you're ready to ride in seconds

Intuitive Filtering

With a single tap, you can always choose your favourite providers and the type of vehicles you'd like to see on the map

Quickest Route

Once you select a vehicle on the map, we instantly show you the quickest way to reach it

How We Did It

  • Mobile apps implemented using React Native technology, the best solution for hybrid mobile development.
  • Backend based on Parse Server, one of the most popular back-end as a service solutions available, implemented on top of Heroku for easy scalability

  • Cost-effective implementation – with React Native, you write almost the same code for iOS and Android. Parse Server is a BaaS solution perfect for mobile apps, accelerating development time.
  • Easy maintenance – because with React Native you write the same code for iOS and Android, you have to maintain less code.
  • Almost instant scalability – Parse Server on top of Heroku allows to scale up/scale down the infrastructure when needed.
  • Flexible development – with React Native, you can always implement components natively for iOS and/or Android.
